What a year! At Climate Week NYC 2020, Films for the Forest screened our first ever online event that allowed us to reach countries and communities that we wouldn't have been able to connect with in person. F3 also hosted our first film premier and screening of Forest People, directed by Rafa Calil. Another first:  F3 screened a film from all seven continents. It's been a big year of growth for Films for the Forest; we could have congratulated ourselves and taken a break, but at RP, we look at our successes and we say: great, what next?

As 2020 comes to a close, we are continuing to grow our partner community and expand F3's reach and impact.

Announcing F3’s first partnership of 2021!

We could not be more excited to have Size of Wales (SOW) on board as our first Event Partner! Size of Wales is an environmental NGO based in Wales that provides funding and expertise to local and indigenous communities in tropical regions. This support helps these communities secure and sustain the health and vitality of their forests by regenerating forests and establishing sustainable livelihoods. In Wales, SOW promotes community engagement and education on the importance of tropical forests in tackling climate change.

Films for the Forest and Size of Wales share similar values: we both believe in inspiring people in order to be a part of the climate solution. Size of Wales will play a critical role in spreading the word of the F3 competition to their audience in Wales and beyond.

We were fortunate to get Size of Wales representative Anna Harris’s perspective about the new partnership:

“As soon as I heard about Films for the Forest and the many connections between the work of Size of Wales and Rainforest Partnership, we were really enthusiastic about partnering up this year and bringing F3 across the ocean to Wales, the UK and beyond. We think bridging the power of film with the stories of indigenous and forest peoples is a brilliant way to inspire people to take action to help protect tropical forests, for the sake of the people who depend upon them directly and indirectly, i.e. our entire planet! We’re looking forward to seeing what the collaboration can bring.”

Film as a tool for environmental engagement and education

Size of Wales organizes elementary school workshops in which they teach young children about the importance of preserving the global environment and conserving resources in their community. Now, SOW will have the unique opportunity to use the Films for the Forest footage as youth and educational engagement material. By using F3 films as educational materials, Size of Wales will be able to add a new, exciting digital learning tool to their curriculum.

Filmmakers, film-lovers, Films for the Forest is an opportunity for you to engage with rainforests

RP would love to have other partners join the Films for the Forest team as well! Together we can spread the message of this year's competition theme, “Inspire Hope’, to our collaborative worldwide audiences! If your organization is interested in partnering with us please contact films(at)rainforestpartnership.org.

As we wrap up 2020, we will continue looking for eager filmmakers to submit their projects for the 2021 Films for the Forest competition! Motivated by this year's theme, “Inspire Hope,” the F3 and Size of Wales teams hope you all get out your camera’s and start filming what inspires you in your community. Make sure to submit your film by January 31st on the Films for the Forest website!

We are so excited to watch your films and then share them with our worldwide audience this Earth Day, April 22nd, 2021!
