PRESS RELEASE: Austin, Texas - Rainforest Partnership, a global nonprofit dedicated to preserving the world’s standing forests, is thrilled to announce the finalists for the 2024 Films for the Forest competition. This announcement was made by Sumit Jamuar, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Rainforest Partnership, and Sten-Kristian Saluveer, Head of the Cannes Film Festival and Strategic Advisor for Rainforest Partnership, at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
Now in its 15th year, Films for the Forest (F3) is an international short film competition that is a pillar of Rainforest Partnership’s activism platform. F3 aims to harness the power of creative storytelling to engage, empower, and activate filmmakers and global audiences alike in support of the world's forests.
"This year's theme is Water: Fertility and Prosperity.” explains Film for the Forest Director, Andrea Builes-Velez. “We all know the importance of water in all facets of human life, but many don't know the vital role forests play in a healthy global water system. Forests, particularly rainforests, act as natural filters, regulate rainfall and temperatures, and support overall biodiversity, among other highly important ecological functions. This profound impact is undeniable, and each of our finalists vividly depict this connection, no doubt inspiring global audiences to take action.”
This year's competition features six unique categories receiving an impressive 84 submissions from 30 different countries. A winner and runner up will be chosen in each category, to be announced on World Rainforest Day - June 22, 2024. The 2024 judges include five-time Oscar-nominated filmmaker Richard Linklater and Estonian Academy Award-nominated audiovisual producer Sten-Kristian Saluveer.
