We envision thriving tropical rainforests that support a healthy, vibrant planet.

Our mission is to protect and regenerate tropical rainforests by working with the people of the forests to develop sustainable livelihoods that empower and respect both people and nature.

From Niyanta Spelman, Our Executive Director

Rainforest Partnership is an impact and data driven international nonprofit dedicated to protecting tropical rainforests, the lungs of our planet and a critical factor in its health.

The Amazon Basin alone stores 400 million metric tons of CO2 per year – about 25% of all carbon stored on land, and it produces 20% of the world’s oxygen.

Nearly 4,500 acres of rainforests are lost every hour from illegal logging, mining, agriculture, forest fires, and oil drilling, resulting in a lot more carbon in the atmosphere – and a lot less oxygen.

Rainforest Partnership works directly with rainforest communities to sustainably develop products found in the forest, giving the community a stake in keeping their trees intact.

When the trees are more valuable standing than cut, we can all breathe easier.

  • Tropical rainforests make up less than 2% of Earth’s total surface area, yet they play a hugely disproportionate role in their impact in maintaining the health of our planet.
  • They are a critical mechanism in mitigating climate change and its effects.
  • They serve as an important carbon sink by storing carbon, taking in carbon dioxide and breathing out oxygen.
  • They support more than 50% of the world’s plants and animals, majority of which are not found anywhere else in the world.
  • They regulate the global water cycle.
  • Tropical rainforests are the home to more than 30 million people, with rich indigenous diversity and culture.
  • Tropical rainforests are nature’s pharmacy: More than 70% of plant species are found here and more than 25% of western medicine and more than 70% of cancer drugs originate from them.

What happens in these forests affects us all everywhere.

  • We work with rainforest communities that want to find alternatives to deforestation
  • We empower the people of the forests by developing and establishing sustainable income generating sources and other solutions to deforestation.
  • We employ rigorous and objective project selection criteria and sound project management techniques.
  • We integrate technical expertise (such as scientific, management, engineering, business) with indigenous culture and knowledge to enable the parallel long-term sustainability of livelihoods and forests.
  • We create bridges between people by identifying, employing and sharing diverse knowledge, resources and capabilities – linking people to people.
  • We seek, embrace and apply innovative solutions at all levels of our work
  • We leverage resources and partners with others, achieving efficiencies that maximize our impact.

We do all of these things to achieve the results in our work of tropical rainforest protection.

  • Our mission of tropical rainforest protection is our focus and our compass.
  • We embrace our responsibility as stewards and protectors of our planet
  • We are committed to being results and impact driven
  • We value our partners and the work we do together through our partnerships.
  • We work collaboratively, and bottom-up.
  • We work with humility and take pride in our collective accomplishments
  • We adapt, evolve and innovate to the ever-changing landscape to maximize our positive impact in a cost-effective manner.
  • Every member of our team, regardless of location in the rainforest or at our HQ, is equally valued for their role and contributions as part of an integrated communication and working model.

Respect is our hallmark:  to and from all, and especially for indigenous values and culture.
