We traveled to rainforests around the globe on Earth Day 2020! Geographic distance was no match for the power of the gifted visual storytellers whose films made it to the Films for the Forest (F3) 2020 online screening.

We love being part of SXSW, and look forward to returning the debut F3 screening there next year, but this year’s circumstances drove us to answer the question: how do we bring F3 to an audience who can’t travel to Austin? We bring the films to them, wherever they are. And that’s just what we did.

Within the 36 hour period that the screening was shown, the F3 website had over 1,500 views and the YouTube page had over 600 views. Rainforest Partnership found great success in moving the screening online as we were able to captivate a worldwide audience with 3 screening times throughout the day.

The judges of the 2020 competition – Richard Linklater, Oona Chaplin, and Francesca Prada – had an excellent selection of films to choose from as F3 had submissions from 20 countries and all 7 continents. We are delighted to announce that the winning films were “#Naturenow” by Tom Mustill and “Eyes in the Forest” by Ryan Ffrench!

As we launch the 2021 Films for the Forest Competition on June 22nd for World Rainforest Day, we hope you grab your camera and get creative with us! This year we plan to do BOTH an online screening as well as an in person screening at SXSW.

We’re working on additional innovations that will allow you to engage more deeply with the films, filmmakers, and the F3 team. Our goal is to keep our global audience engaged with these powerful forest stories all year long, and we have a fantastic F3 team working on some fun collaborative events already!

Plan to stay in touch here or on RP’s social media so you can be among the first to hear about what’s coming next.
