Be it known that

Our world’s declining tropical rainforests play a critical role in regulating global climate and hydrological patterns, and deforestation of these same rainforests is both a major contributor to carbon emissions and weakens our planet’s ability to self-regulate; and

Rainforest Partnership, headquartered in Austin, Texas, is an impact-focused, international nonprofit fighting to protect and regenerate endangered tropical rainforests by working on the ground in partnership with the indigenous communities of the Amazon, and in concert with local, national and international organizations to preserve this unique ecological powerhouse; and

The City of Austin is recognized as a vanguard of action on climate change, a supportive ally for those who share that goal, headquarters to Rainforest Partnership since its founding, and whose Mayor, City leaders and citizens demonstrate that commitment in both policy and action; and

Rainforest Partnership, a global voice for addressing climate change founded and based in this city of environmental leaders, is hosting its annual “Amazon in Austin” Celebration Event on October 26nd, 2017 at which it will spotlight the 10 years of achievements made possible through the combined efforts of their network of Rainforest Partners;

Now, Therefore,

I, Steve Adler, Mayor of the City of Austin, Texas,

do hereby proclaim

October 22nd through October 29th, 2017

Rainforest Partnership Week: Amazon in Austin

In witness whereof, I have hereunto

set my hand and caused the seal of the City

of Austin to be affixed this 26th Day of

October in the Year Two Thousand Seventeen

Steve Adler, Mayor, City of Austin
